Why you'd want to live in Newmarket

Newmarket is a town located near the central northern part of the Regional Municipality of York in Ontario. The town takes its name from a market that grew into the largest farmer’s market in the area during the early 19th century; this “new” market quickly became the centre of agriculture, trade, commerce, and small industry north of the “old” market in Toronto. Newmarket is bordered by the town of East Gwillimbury to the north, the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville to the east, the town of Aurora to the south, and King Township to the west. Similar to Aurora, the town is neatly framed by four of Southern Ontario’s major access routes. These include Ontario Highway 404 on the eastern side and Regional Road 38 or Bathurst Street on the western side, while Regional Road 19 or Miller’s Sideroad and Regional Road 26 or St. John’s Sideroad are just past the town’s northern and southern borders, respectively. The town offers all of the services and amenities of a big city with all the charm and character of a small town, with premium healthcare and a deep-rooted commitment to the environment that includes many environmental policies and bylaws. Considered a part of the Greater Toronto Area and the fast-growing Golden Horseshoe subregion of Southern Ontario, Newmarket has been ranked as one of Canada’s Best Places to Live in 2013 by Money Sense magazine.
